I’m not sure about either of those statements, perhaps I’ve read too much, what I can tell you is that by 1976 we were all craving another Sticky Fingers from The Rolling Stones, and another Let It Bleed, well that was a dream no one gave voice to.

Instead, what I treated myself to for my birthday in April of that year was Black And Blue. Yes, I should have know better, I should not have been drawn in by the hype, and certainly put off by the degrading adverts for the album but I went and put my money down, set on taking the ride. The Rolling Stones radical departure from the dirty blues sound they invoked prior to this album caught pretty much all their die-hard fans by surprise however endeared them to a new legion of dance-craved reggae loving fans. This album, although recorded in Germany and Switzerland definitely drew influence from the Caribbean and although it didn't appeal to fans and critics alike at the time, this album became a staple decades later with cuts like 'Fool To Cry', 'Hot Stuff' and 'Crazy Mama'. Give it a spin and judge for yourself instead of listening to the critics!!
